Improvements in the Treatment of Hypertension

The recent ASCOT trial found two drugs offered big advantages over an older treatment strategy in over 19,000 patients suffering from hypertension. The results regarding important cardiovascular benefits to those patients receiving the newer drugs were so significant, that the trial was stopped early.

Professor Peter Sever from Imperial College London, stated that the implication of the results is that the very commonly used beta-blocker drugs are not as effective at preventing the major complications of hypertension, such as strokes, heart attacks and other cardiovascular conditions. Another professor, Phillip Bath, said that these modern drugs often cause less side effects than older ones, and other trials have shown advantages with newer drugs used in the ASCOT trial.

Comparing and analyzing data via patient and service dashboards is an excellent way of determining which drugs are in fact proving to be more effective. This trial has also proven that careful detailing of patients' personal and medical data, as well as correct diagnosis and effective plans of treatment are all essential in offering patients optimal care, and improving efficiency of the health service.

RioMed's Cellma facilitates the above mentioned necessities to help you provide the highest quality care to your patients.
