There are an estimated 580,000 people in England and Wales with rheumatoid arthritis. Approximately 87,000 of them suffer from the disease severely.
Anti-TNF (anti-tumour necrosis factor alpha) therapy drugs - adalimunab, etanercept, infliximab - can slow the progress of disease and help to reduce symptoms such as joint pain, swelling, mobility and fatigue. However, previous guidelines said patients in England and Wales could only be prescribed one course of these medications. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued draft guidance which changes the guidance from two years ago in which therapies were cut from five to two.In the latest draft guidelines, NICE recommended:
Dr Carole Longson from NICE said "Different people respond in different ways to treatment and the committee heard from clinical experts and patients about the importance of having multiple options available. Cellma makes it easy to monitor patients’ responses to various treatments. With its patient and service dashboard functionality, comparing the effectiveness of certain drug treatments between patients within a particular hospital, or the arthritis population in general is made more efficient and facilitates further research for innovative improvements, to ensure quality care."NICE's decision will enable us to support both researchers and clinicians to move closer to what we regard as the medical equivalent of the Holy Grail - personalised medicine - with choice of treatment being more targeted and tailored towards individual needs.” According to Prof Alan Silman of Arthritis Research UK, this is of utmost importance. He continued, "A major part of our research programme is to try and establish which patients will do best on which particular drug, and this decision will make that much more practically achievable." RioMed prides itself on offering targeted and personalised service. Thus, we too support both researchers and clinicians on this venture. We also acknowledge that Cellma is the optimal solution for cohesively facilitating this type of change in the medical industry. Our fully customized assessments, engaging a holistic pharmacy module, ensures that the process of administering the correct medicines to patients, in a timely manner is achieved; thus ensuring safe and quality service.
