Trinidad and Tobago’s healthcare infrastructure was paper-based in 2007, the country’s healthcare infrastructure is separated into 4 regional health authorities; South West Regional Health Authority, North West Health Authority, Eastern Regional Health Authority and Tobago Regional Health Authority. Within the purview of Ministry of Health is the HIV/Aids Co-ordination Unit (HACU). It was here that Riomed’s journey started within Trinidad and Tobago.
At HACU, there was a need for an electronic database that would track the number of patients that were being tested and treated at the Medical Research Foundation (MRF). The director then, Prof Bartholomew required MRF and by extension the additional HACU sites to have advanced services specifically for collating and reporting of sexual health data. At the time, there was an access database but the majority of their records were on paper.
Through the implementation of Cellma, HACU moved from a paper based site, then to paperlight and now paper less. Cellma is used at all HACU sites including;
